Dana Elaine Owens better known as Queen Latifah is an American performer and actress. Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper and singer. Queen Latifah is the daughter of Newark New Jersey native. Her parents are Lancelot Sr. as a police officer and Rita educator at Irvington High School. Their divorce occurred when Latifah was 10 years old. Latifah was raised in the Baptist congregation and went to Catholic high school located at Newark New Jersey. Latifah was the stage name she used at the time she reached the age of eight. The word means extremely fragile in Arabic. Latifah's 5'10" height was enough to make her a formidable performer in high school. At her school's game, Latifah performed "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah started to beatbox with the Ladies Fresh. Latifah was a part of the Flavor Unit in its original form, which consisted of an MC team led by producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King recorded an audition recording of Queen Latifah's song Princess of the Posse. He emailed the recorded to Yo! MTV Raps which is hosted by Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music has signed Latifah upon hearing the track. The singer released her debut single, Wrath of My Madness, in 1988.
